3. If you face financial difficulties and cannot finish your lay-by, you will be refunded with a 50% penalty fee deducted.
1. Eligibility. Layby is available to registered Student Store users only.
2. Duration. Lay-by is allowed for a maximum of 3 months from the date of first payment.
3. No Cancellation. You cannot cancel your lay-by after payment has been made. All payments are final and binding once submitted.
4. Financial Difficulty. If you are unable to complete your lay-by due to financial difficulties, you will be refunded the amount paid minus a 50% penalty fee.
5. Late Payments. Payments must be made by the agreed due date. A 3-day grace period applies. After the grace period, the lay-by may be cancelled and the penalty fee applied.
6. Item Collection. Items must be collected within 7 days of final payment. Uncollected items may be restocked.
7. No Interest. Student Store charges zero interest or hidden fees on any layby plan.
8. Acceptance. By submitting a layby request, you confirm you have read, understood, and agree to these terms.
Student Store β Effective January 2025
Welcome to Student Store. By accessing or using our platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
Student Store is open to currently enrolled students and staff. Users must be 18 years or older, or have parental/guardian consent. We reserve the right to verify eligibility at any time.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You may not share your account with others. Student Store is not liable for any loss resulting from unauthorised account access.
All listings are submitted by users and reviewed by admin before going live. Student Store does not guarantee the accuracy of listings. Buyers and sellers transact at their own risk. Prohibited items (stolen goods, counterfeit products, weapons, controlled substances) are strictly banned and will result in immediate account suspension. Price negotiation is strictly governed by Section 4B β no offers below 80% or above 90% of the listed price will be entertained under any circumstances.
4A.1 Campus Pickup. Items may be collected on campus at a pre-agreed location. Campus pickup is free. Collection points must be in open, visible areas on campus grounds.
4A.2 Public Space Meetup. For off-campus transactions, meetups must take place in a well-lit, busy public space (e.g. shopping centre, library, campus gate). Student Store strongly discourages private or isolated meeting locations for the safety of all parties.
4A.3 Safety First. Student Store is not responsible for any incidents that occur during in-person exchanges. Always bring a friend if possible, meet during daytime hours (8amβ7pm), and trust your instincts. If something feels unsafe, do not proceed with the transaction.
4A.4 Operating Hours. All pickups, meetups, and collections are arranged between 8am and 7pm, Monday to Friday. Requests outside of these hours will not be honoured unless pre-approved by admin.
4A.5 No Home Visits. Buyers and sellers are strictly prohibited from arranging meetups at private residences unless both parties explicitly agree and Student Store accepts no liability for such arrangements.
4B.1 Minimum Offer Threshold. All price offers submitted through the platform are strictly limited to a minimum of 80% and a maximum of 90% of the listed price. Offers outside this range will be automatically rejected by the system and will not be forwarded to admin or the seller.
4B.2 No Exceptions. This range is non-negotiable and applies to all items across all categories without exception. Users may not attempt to circumvent this rule by submitting offers via WhatsApp, DM, or any other channel not approved by Student Store.
4B.3 Offer Acceptance. Submitting an offer does not guarantee acceptance. Admin reserves the right to accept, decline, or counter any offer on behalf of the seller. All offer decisions are final.
4B.4 No Direct Negotiation. Buyers and sellers are strictly prohibited from negotiating prices directly outside of the platform's offer system. Any private price arrangements made outside Student Store are not recognised or protected by these Terms.
4B.5 Abuse of Offer System. Repeatedly submitting low-ball offers, harassing sellers, or misusing the offer feature will result in suspension of offer privileges or permanent account banning at admin's discretion.

All payments are confirmed via WhatsApp with our admin team. Student Store does not store card or banking details. Proof of payment must be provided for all transactions. Disputes must be raised within 48 hours of payment.
All sales are final unless the item significantly differs from its description. Refund requests must be raised within 24 hours of collection. Refunds are issued as store credit only. No cash refunds.
Users may not: list stolen, fake, or illegal items; harass or defraud other users; create multiple accounts; manipulate prices or reviews; or misuse the platform in any way that violates South African law.
9.1 Price Cap. All items listed under the Thrift category are subject to a maximum selling price of R500 until further notice. This rule is in place to keep thrift affordable and fair for every student on campus.
9.2 Student Budget Policy. Student Store believes every student deserves access to quality second-hand items at budget-friendly prices. Thrift is a community-first category β not a reselling opportunity. Listings priced above R500 in this category will be rejected by admin without notice.
9.3 Fairness. This cap applies equally to all sellers regardless of the item's original value. If you feel your item is worth more than R500, please list it under a more appropriate category (e.g. Clothing, Sneakers, Accessories).
9.4 Updates. The R500 cap may be revised by admin at any time. Any changes will be communicated via the platform announcement bar and WhatsApp.
Student Store is a peer-to-peer marketplace. We are not liable for the quality, safety, legality, or accuracy of listed items. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the platform.
Your personal data is used solely to operate the platform. We do not sell or share your data with third parties. Data is stored locally on your device. For queries, contact [email protected].
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance. Users will be notified of major updates via WhatsApp or email.

Any dispute between a buyer and seller must first be reported to Student Store admin via WhatsApp or email. Admin will attempt to mediate within 3 business days. Student Store's decision is final on all platform-related disputes. We are not liable for losses resulting from user-to-user transactions.
Sellers are solely responsible for the accuracy of their listings, including condition, price, and photos. Misrepresentation of an item is grounds for account suspension. Buyers must inspect items at the point of collection before completing payment where possible.
16.1 Any user found to have scammed another user (e.g. receiving payment without delivering goods, sending counterfeit items, or misrepresenting item condition) will be permanently banned from the platform.
16.2 Student Store will cooperate with campus security and/or law enforcement in cases of confirmed fraud.
16.3 Users are encouraged to report suspicious listings or behaviour immediately to admin via WhatsApp.
16.4 Attempting to negotiate prices outside the platform's approved offer system (80%β90% range only), including via private WhatsApp, DM, or in-person pressure, is considered a violation of these Terms and may result in immediate account suspension.
Student Store does not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted access to the platform. Maintenance, updates, or unforeseen technical issues may result in temporary downtime. We will endeavour to notify users of planned outages via WhatsApp.
All branding, design, and content produced by Student Store is protected. Users may not reproduce, copy, or distribute Student Store's brand assets without written permission. Product images uploaded by users remain the property of the user.
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any unresolved disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

We collect your name, email address, and any product listings you submit. No payment details are stored on our platform.
Your information is used to operate your account, process orders and layby requests, and communicate with you about your transactions.
All data is stored locally on your device using browser storage. We do not operate external servers or databases that hold your personal information.
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. WhatsApp is used for order confirmations β their privacy policy applies to those interactions.
You may request deletion of your account and data at any time by contacting [email protected].
Student Store processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013. We collect only what is necessary to operate the platform. You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information at any time. To exercise these rights, contact our Information Officer at the details below. We will respond within 30 days.
